Traveling as a family of three now! So many firsts: first flights, first toe-dips in the ocean, and first real road trips. Fun memories and meeting family and friends on the Best Coast.
Being wedding photographers, our slow season is usually the spring, even though you would think it might be in the winter. As lovely as spring is in most parts of the country, here in Colorado we have unpredictable weather, and a lot of time we get heavy wet snow, leading to lots of mud, or hail that breaks branches and people's hearts who have gardens. Most people in Colorado schedule their weddings for the beautiful summer, warm fall, and snowy winter, so we usually try to get out of town in the spring and go somewhere warm! (I'm looking at you, Hawaii). This year we decided we would head to California to visit my grandmother, since we knew she wasn't able to travel out to see us.
This was a special trip for so many reasons, one being that it was our first time traveling out of state as a family of three, Theo's first airplane rides, and his first road trips longer than the time it takes to get to his grandparents' houses - but also because he got to meet my grandmother- his only great grandmother.
We didn't know it at the time, but this would be the last time we were able to see her, as she passed away rather suddenly in early May. We had debated on whether we should make this trip in the spring or wait until fall- but we're really really REALLY glad we made the decision to go when we did, and that she was able to meet another one of her great-grandchildren! Although Theo might not remember this trip, we certainly will- and we'll have the photos to show him when he's older- which is exactly why I do what I do: take photos of EVERYTHING.
We had an awesome time with some of the west coast cousins, and then drove up to Oregon to hang with some of our besties. Lots of laughter, cheese, wine, beach time, vineyards, naps, a bit of fishing, and so many incredible memories - I had a hard time narrowing down the photos (clearly) - but I'm just so happy we were able to make this trip, and can't wait for our next adventure together as a family of three, wherever that may be.
